“ La ferme du Marais Girard” is an old barn between marshlands, housing estates and seafront houses. The project aimed to create an ecological village for holiday makers with 16 non standard villas and facilities like a bar and restaurant with a community kitchen nearby the sweet smelly greenhouse, a natural swimming pool and the original dryer barn, a covered market place for creative activities, …
Between refurbishment and new buildings settled around the farm’s courtyard, old and contemporary architecture revealed each other in a sweet harmony.
Some of them have a double exposure both public and private spaces to hook and interacted with surroundings.
Some materials are taken form the existing buildings and used for some new one like the natural dryer barn, especially created for the laundry of all the village services. The original function of tiles is changed to create a new application for a breathing wall witch brings natural ventilation. This process gives the barn an architectural expression where aesthetic and function matched.
The Villas are designed to bring a close relationship with nature in order to offer holidaymakers an amazing space experience.
“Les villas pontons” are composed with individual and functional units as rooms and bathrooms organized around living rooms in wide connection with the outside. Each unit is built in wood as the entire building and shows a special pattern cladding. Villas are raised from the ground on a dock and managed some outdoor but covered private and sharing spaces with external showers. A long step connects terraces to the ground and allows various external purposes in relation with the natural landscape.
