A late 1920’s building with an aging 1980’s renovation was in dire need to engage staff and create visual proof that collaboration is present in the building and here to stay. The building owner’s real estate team called upon design firm Visnick & Caulfield Associates to develop an innovative concept that could greatly impact the psyche of thousands of employees and activate the main floor entrance lobby. The solution was the recently completed Tech Lounge, a destination for employees to find help with their electronic devices, as well as provide classes to keep the staff current with various IT initiatives.
Architecturally, Visnick & Caulfield’s design concept was to open the interior space to the building’s atrium both physically and spatially, taking advantage of tall internal windows. To further the notion of a collaborative destination, the team provided a space that “glows”, is clean and crisp, easy to approach and provides users with the tools needed to provide a broad range of technical help and service.
Standout features include a waved edge ceiling treatment that is illuminated with color variable LED lighting. Sound absorbing material on the walls, bench seating and flooring balance the acoustic considerations and desire of users. Reconfigurable tables and seating elements allow for both classroom activities or walk up help desk collaboration.
The achieved space has quickly become the solution to drive employee engagement within the office building. The client refers to the Tech Lounge as “a gem of a space” and is extremely pleased with how it’s functioning as both an IT solution hub for the building and a communal gathering space.
