After extensive community research, Francis Cauffman created a master plan for St. Joseph’s Healthcare System (SJHS) that reorganized and expanded the entire medical campus to meet the needs of the surrounding population. The hospital’s transformation also acted as a catalyst for local and regional development. The centerpiece of the new medical campus is a state-of-the-art critical care building (CCB) and a two-story lobby connecting the CCB and the children’s hospital. Other projects are a medical office building, an ambulatory care building, affordable housing, and a new transit station. As a result, SJHS provides better and more accessible health services for previously underserved but growing segments of the population.
