Skandion Clinic is Scandinavia's first cancer clinic for treatment with proton therapy. LINK arkitektur won a parallel assignment in 2007 and has provided Sweden with a new signature building.
We have given the clinic a clear identity, manifesting the clinic's significance and capacity. The airy building has a delicate appearance through perforated aluminum sheets with patterns inspired by lace curtains. The enclosed part of the clinic captures the same pattern in concrete and glass via interplay between secluded privacy and charitable outlook. We wanted the interior to refer to something other than the treatment itself, which inspired us to work with natural materials combined with a strong color palette. The clinic's natural materials continue into the bright rooms of the environmentally rated Hotel von Kraemer, housed in the upper floors of the clinic.
The clinic opens in 2015 and will initially treat approximately 1,000 patients annually.
