The Shanghai Electric Group Campus design was done as an invitational competition with two other international firms, all participants chosen for their extensive experience in large modern campus design. The site is in a dense neighborhood of Shanghai and many urban constraints were taken into consideration including security, views, noise, and daylight. The resulting design took its formal queue from the shape and mechanics of a circular turbine, the building block of most energy generation. In consideration of the client, all efforts were made to incorporate the latest in sustainable and renewable building technologies.
