Greece is a country with thousands of islands and an endless coastline.
The last decade, a huge transport network of seaplanes and terminals is
developing. These small planes are able easily and quickly to approach
coastal areas connecting thereby the hundreds of inhabited islands to
the mainland. Specifically, there are daily seaplane departures and
arrivals to Volos, that link the city with the nearby islands of
Sporades. For the convenienceof the passenger, a new terminal
is created as a linear island in the shape of an “unending” jetty
running parallel to the port. The island consists of three overlapping
bands with different functions. The first level contains a
parking place for the seaplanes. At the second level ticket office and
waiting areas are created. Finally, the third level that is approached
through the bridge is an area of recreation and walking, availlable to
passengers and the inhabitats of the city who will be able to have a
“lift up” and a “lift down” experience as the ramp vibrates and tries to
“take of”.
