BAM Architecture Studio’s design for 136,000 square feet of new office space for SCOR Reinsurance in Charlotte, NC employs color and light through transparency to embody 400 employee’s excitement about their new ownership under SCOR and office relocation.
Excited both about a new owner identity and office space opened an opportunity for BAM to have a conversation around what SCOR’s new space should communicate about Charlotte’s business unit and how employees interact during a work day. Connectivity, openness, and progress emerged through vertical feature stairs, transparency and color.
Existing and dated stairwells were re-skinned to become sculptural elements within a designed open plan. Full height glass at office and conference fronts frame views of internal and external action. Internally, entire departments are visually connected through open collaborative work environments and low furniture systems. Colored with SCOR’s blue hues, both furniture and space animate with brightness and identity. Externally, views are framed through office fronts set at parallel angles to emphasis both the Charlotte skyline and the interior SCOR office and artwork. When move in day came, there was no question as to what leadership now directed those employees or as to where they were headed – into the future.
