This house is the result of a restoration project of an industrial building (a mill of 1600), is very charming when a site changes its skin, we loved being able to make domestic a space that once was productive.
It was a totally dark place and we have immediately imagined it flooded with light, so we decided to create an inner courtyard, as in a Moroccan riad, which was the centerpiece of the space and at the same time a filter from the outside world.
In the project we have maintained as values characteristic elements such as the open space on the ground floor, the vaulted ceilings, and we worked using local materials.
We wanted to create a mood 'Salento contemporary', translate colors, smells, tastes and materials of this land into a project. To constructive values of Salento’s 600 we added a key to understanding the present, as whitening lime, the lighting project from below, the floor of local stone but with a contemporary setting, and a mix of modern and vintage with we wanted to play.
From the first moment for us this house has been a decompression space, where the brain could break free from the stresses and tensions, so the spaces are wide, soft colors and between an object and the other we studied a report and an area of relevance that give harmony and consequently relax.
We designed this house because it could be a space to share and of conviviality. The architectural sense is in coincident relation between the spaces and the life of the people who inhabit it.
This summer we will spend here with many friends. We love living this space in company. It 'a house that lends itself to the maximum interaction, but where at the same time each more have their own privacy.
(The house is located in Sogliano Cavour, a small town in the province of Lecce, Salento inland.)
