New Orleans has long been dependent on its majestic river. As the city continues the arduous process of rebuilding its damaged neighborhoods – to which outmost priority must remain – there is also a need for a strategic, entrepreneurial, optimistic look ahead. The Reinventing the Crescent Development Plan addresses such questions, and proposes a key role for a six-mile stretch along the East Bank of the Mississippi River. From Jackson Avenue upriver to the former Holy Cross school site just down river of the mouth of the Industrial Canal, this plan envisions an urban, active, inhabited, beautiful river crescent for the Crescent City’s present, and future citizens to enjoy.
