NN building
layer of continuity and dispersion
The building is a complex of nursery belonging to hospital and housing on top of it.
Nursery space requires to be open and continuous for children's relationship or efficient nursing service. In contrast to 1st floor, upper housing had request from client to be independent and isolate from each other as much as possible. The two programs with antithetical tendency has been layered.
Housing
Housing volumes of 5 meter by 5 meter in plan at 2nd and 3rd floor is arranged discretely facing diverse directions. Each housing unit has functional core in middle and resident circulates around this core to reach deep private end. Resident will access to each unit directly from common terrace surrounded by volumes on 2nd floor level. This is a semi-private space shared only by residents, where have visual and physical distance from surrounding neighbor.
Nursery
Depending on their parent's diverse working hour in the hospital, each children's nursing duration will change daily or timely. To have most suitable nursing setting for this changing condition, the flexibility and continuity of the space were required.
The intricate geometry of above housing is adopted also on 1st floor but here is used for stimulating children's activity and creating continuous space. Children will move around service core or furniture in angle, finding new scene ahead one after another. Floor level of nursing space gradually rises following the inclination of the site. Elder children will have higher ceiling height and younger children will stay calm in lower ceiling space at the end.
