What is the Venice
Lagoon? And its Park?
The Venice Lagoon is a COMPLEX and DYNAMIC ECOSYSTEM,
characterized by both strong chemical-physicals connections between biotic and
abiotic components, all powered by energy. In this particular system, based on
scale-free network models, there are spontaneous self-organization processes
which increase the complexity through the proliferation of bio-diversity. The
unique combination of land and sea, as well as freshwater and seawater, make
this ecosystem as an environment of transition among the most productive
ecosystems in the world. The links are the most interesting aspect being they
are the greatest actors bringing on the co-evolution of the structure of this
lagoon system. The co-evolution represents one process which denotes the
ability of biotic and abiotic factors to attract new connections, making the
system competitive. The competition to grow up new links is the key factor for
the survival of the individuals and destabilize also the equilibrium. The
equilibrium can also change because of the influence of external factors,
determining the formation of a new ecosystem through the proliferation of
pioneer essences prepararen future colonization.
We propose a reflection from the consolidated vision
which often overlooks the nature of man. The presence of man has to be
considered as an instrumental element incorporated within the complex and
extensive network of relationships resulting in everchanging equilibrium.
The SYMBOLIC MAP here developed represents the whole
of the diversity of AUTONOMOUS AGENTS more representative and its LINKS in the
entire ecosystem of Venice Lagoon.
Try manipolar this complex system by deducting the
antrópica component. This operation has a symbolic value and at the same time
it wants to be a provocation. The provocation to be based on the subversion of
the widespread cognition of unsustainability mental any ambient conformation
without human presence, resulting in the gradual elevation of man to the role
of creator animal, y for this excluded of natural dynamics. This determines the
inability to foreshadow a future of the planet without his presence.
Leaving this out of a future for the world without the
man extinguished to the atrophy of the sensory capabilities and the ability to
adapt because of the progressive increase in technology in everyday life.
Our intention is to focus on specific pieces of land,
Gilles Clément called the Third landscape. The complete set of these abandoned areas form a
new landscape of indecisive spaces, resulting from a previous rational
organization of the territory.
The island of Sacca San Mattia is such an example of
the Third landscape. Composed by the
accumulation of sediments from the production of glass, it is now partially
abandoned as many other islands in the lagoon are.
The scenary which has been proposed interprets the
island of Sacca San Mattia as a biproduct in which a project of CONSCIOUS ABANDONMENT is develloping.
With CONSCIOUS ABANDONMENT we
understand a form of relationship with the territory in which the economic
value has been replaced by the environmental value, and the only action
possible for man is observation. One observation, guided by the conscience of
fertility, is that of the territories marginally abandoned as a proliferation
of diversity and creativity.
The transformation, entirely summarized in three
phases previously described belaw, presents times implementation consistent
with slow natural dynamics, having not precluded human observation from the
outside. In conclusion, through the organization teams of researchers, in
combination with the creation of a true COMUNITY study on the evolutionary
dynamics of autonomous agents in the lagoon, researchers can explore the park
on the Venice Lagoon thouroughly. The resulting data from this process would
then be published and compared, and then the success of their research would be
submitted in a collaborative effort into WIKI SOFTWARE which would then be
easily and openly accessible to everyone.
1_phase: the beginning CONSCIOUS ABANDONMENT.
Progressive decrease of population and abandonment,
spontaneous or induced, the human side.
2_phase: installation of pioneer and unstable
essences, with specific diversity and heterogeneous characteristics.
Slow and gradual appearance of organisms, as pioneer
plants, capable of adapting to the properties chemical-physicals the
environment and establishing a new biological dynamics.
3_phase: developing stable essences slow dynamic, with
a strong increase in the bio-diversity and proliferation.
Appearance of agents autonomous with more complex
biology, linked together by mutual relationship of interdependence, with the
creation of complex food chains.
