Msgr. Anthony J. Barretta Apartments is an HPD-sponsored affordable housing project in the Brownsville/East New York section of Brooklyn. It was developed by Community Preservation Corporation (CPC) in partnership with Catholic Charities.
Based on RKTB's "Smart Housing" infill prototype, the project features a total of 64 units in 8 buildings. Eight units have been set aside as Section 8 apartments for very low-income tenants. It was designed as a sustainable project with the intention of obtaining a LEED rating.
The buildings were constructed on land acquired from the Brookyn Archdiocese, where the convent and school of the Church of Our Lady of Loreto once stood. The church itself is still standing; original plans called for its rehabilitation and incorporation into the design as a community facility.
