Modii is a parametrically designed interactive installation by students of Delft University of Technology.Modii’s goal as an interactive environment is to create a balance in the number of people between the two sides of the installation. In order to do this, Modii will attempt to lure visitors in and guide them through the structure by using light and movement to encourage visitors to keep moving towards whichever side is low on attention. Four columns of electroluminescent wire form the interface on wich visitors and modii will interact by means of touch, light and movement.Modii’s structure is completely digitally fabricated and each and every component is unique. Its form was scripted in Grasshopper by Thijs van der Lely with the help of Han Feng. The script is open to the public to play with and change to their own benefit. The idea of open-source scripting, complete flexibility and free use for anybody is one of the goals set by the Minor Interactive Environments for which it was created. This technique lends itself to creating complex architecture in an organized and efficient manner. The beauty of modular architecture is that the form of the structure itself can be fully integrated with each individual cone’s function. In modii, the circular drums allow accommodation of all electronic components and at the same time facilitate the suspension and twisting movement of the wire columns, form a physical portal for visitors to walk through and block most of surrounding light.designed and manufactured by: samuel austin, pim glastra van loon, jesse hoeksema, meltem kanatlarli, thijs van der lely, daan muilkens, niels stamhuis, deniz uygur & bas vermeulentutors: ir.chris kievid, ing.aadjan van der helm, dr.joost broekens & dr.walter aprileFor more information visit:http://www.projectmodii.com/http://studiolab.ide.tudelft.nl/ie/category/modii-2/http://www.facebook.com/projectmodii
