- Conditions
This cinema located in Bundang is mostly used by locals because of the location, and belongs to a complex facility. The 1st floor is used as a ticket office and snack shops, and the screening rooms are divided into the 2nd, 3rd, 4th floors. Also, due to the limited area, lobbies in all of the floors are small.
- Process
To create a new viewing environment, we had to start from the base, :”movie.” Movies can be memories and dreams for many people. People cry, get scared, and go deep in thought watching movies. These sensations leave emotional afterimages in us that last days and, sometimes, decades. We wanted to make a parallel between the emotion before, during, and after watching a movie, and the emotion we felt while playing in the playground when we were little.
Instead of shapes of the structures at playgrounds, we wanted to show the sensation caused by mobility of the equipment, and these sensations are expressed differently on different floors.
The lobby, where people wait to watch a movie, should not interfere with viewing, so we wanted to avoid decoration and colors as much as possible, by making it colorless (yet still filled with memories)).
However, the spaces of different floors show different memories according to time, based on slow change of colors of light.
In the end, we wanted to build all these sensations in our memories as a space and lead the emotional flow of viewers without interfering with it.
