Launched at the beginning of 2016, the masterplan Il Monte Galala, project by 5+1AA Alfonso Femia Gianluca Peluffo, consists in the building of a new city of 7.500 inhabitants (2.500 for the first phase) including 6 hotels.
In January 2015, the team lead by the Genoese agency won the project for the masterplan of the new city di Ain El Sokhna. The city will be situated on the shores of the Red Sea, about 150 km from Cairo and 100 km from the Suez Canal.
The contracting authority - the Egyptian society TatweerMisr - shortlisted 6 agencies among the 25 pre-selected and then 5+1AA finally won the competition.
The project will be realized in 5 phases, during 8 years. The city will be developed on a 2,2 million sqm surface. The program gathers housing - about 1,3 million sqm - and a marina with a coast long of one km and some leisure activities.
The importance of the project, in addition to its dimension, is the positioning of the new city in the system of administrative, industrial and infrastructural development began by Egypt in 2014. Indeed, Il Monte Galala will be located halfway between Cairo and the Red Sea, on the developments of the industrial and road systems planned between Cairo and the Suez Canal. That’s why the new city - despite being a mainly touristic destination for the inhabitants of Cairo -, will also gather main homes near the new business districts.
