Located in the Melbourne suburb of Kew, this weatherboard Victorian cottage in a Boroondara Heritage Overlay had been renovated many times. With primary aged children currently attending schools locally, and the opportunity to stay in the area through secondary schooling years, alterations and additions needed to cater for changing requirements over time. Successful negotiations with neighbours during the Town Planning process allowed the construction of extensive first floor additions as the childrens' zone. Re-design and refurbishment of the ground floor completed the overhaul of the home. Discrete in the street presentation, the finished size of the house defies the modest period exterior.
