On several occasions OAP have had the pleasure to work on projects with James Turrell, one of the most renowned contemporary light artists.
On the occasion of his 70th birthday in 2014, three important museums dedicated major solo exhibitions to him: the LACMA, Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
In 2005 OAP was asked by the Walter A. Bechtler Art Foundation to collaborate with James Turrell on a project for a ‚Skyspace‘ next to Hotel Castell, Zuoz in the Upper Engadine in Switzerland.
In an exciting team work, the architectural implementation of Turell‘s ideas, was developed and perfected. During this process, the construction and technical feasibility of the light performance was continuously developed, along with lighting specialists deeply familiar with his work.
The project was awarded a prize at the Velux Daylight Award 2010.
From the Jury:
„The Skyspace Piz Uter is a highly poetic contribution on the subject of daylight. The installation shows the essence of light and space in an incomparable consequence. Whether this is a work of art or architecture is for the jury therefore not relevant. James Turrell receives for his ‚Skyspace Piz Uter‘ a recognition award.“
