The 200-room Hyatt Place Washington, D.C. / U.S. Capitol, designed by internationally recognized design firm Cooper Carry and developed by The JBG Companies, has opened. The 118,854-square-foot, limited-service hotel is located in the northern portion of the NOMA district, an up-and-coming and vibrant mixed-use neighborhood in Washington, D.C., located less than a mile from Union Station.
The architects conquered a common challenge in the design process by creating a fresh, bold hotel that also adheres to brand standards and city limitations. Located on less than quarter of an acre, the design team fit the hotel precisely within city limits, daringly eliminating parking, and incorporating creative angles and unconventional materials such as limestone and exposed concrete walls. The hotel design serves as a gateway for other brand standard hotels to follow suit. The hotel includes approximately 1,600 square feet of meeting space, the signature Hyatt Place dining experience, a large state-of-the-art fitness facility, and an outdoor pool and terrace that overlook the more intimate setting along N Street. The building was designed to LEED Silver standards and features many sustainable design concepts, such as water-reducing fixtures, energy efficient equipment and lighting, and a rain-screen exterior cladding system.
