What appears from the street to be a small two storey semi-detached house is in fact a Tardis-like four-storey home of 4000 square feet. In this third phase of work on the property, Jeff Kahane and Associates, working with interior designer Michelle Ziff, gutted the previously cramped top floor to form a master bedroom, en-suite bathroom and sun terrace, and created an open-plan basement under the entire property.
The new curved glass balustrade to the terrace and the cascading stairs slicing through the rear façade direct the user down from ground floor level to the garden. By landscaping and levelling the steeply sloping site, we were able to create basement rooms that open up directly onto the rear garden, and thereby enhance the play options for the family’s children.
