JMC House, Frankfurt
Situation
The three storey building is located in a tranquil village in the Taunus Mountains, close to Franfurt am Main.
Concept
The programme o the house has been devided on seperate floor levels. Dominated by a void connects the entrance hall ground and first level and gives a stunning view across the living room area to the Taunus Forest. It also marks the heart of the building from around which the living areas flow. From here the staircase leads to the upper floors and tho the basement below. The shell of the house interiour is detached from another into shear walls, creating shadow recesses.
inside /outside transitions
Floor to ceiling glazing with sliding doors connect the living room with the outside patio.
An important outdoor element is the pool relative to the patio which integrates as a part of the patio arrangement in the garden.
The outdoor area plays a key role in this project: every room, even the guest room and the fitness room, have access to a patio or a balcony with view into the garden and forest. This is heightened by the full storey windows.
Materials
Additional to white render, stone and fibre concrete was used on the façade and the garden walls. We consistently employed grey Pietra Serena for the stonework. While the stone for the floor was polished, the fireplace and garden walls were left rought.
The garage door remains invisible due to a tiling pattern and forms a harmonic counterpoint to the white render on the street façade. The floor on the first level is furnished with both whitewashed and oiled oak boards. In the masters bathroom as well as the childrens bathroom the floor is entirely made of Pietra Serena.
