Transformation and expansion of a single-family house, Commugny (VD)
The existing house, constructed on a diamond-shaped plot, had practically no direct relationship with the garden, and left many residual spaces.
The project, which requires that the living area be doubled, restores a relationship with different parts of the garden, occupying its limits.
Two extensions are built on either sides of the existing construction. A first, on the south side, offers a wider front, favorably oriented in relation to existing large trees. A second, oriented north-east, which establishes a relationship with the flat area of the garden, and forms a visual boundary with the street.
Three U-shaped service elements articulate the plan of this extended ground floor.
The first module includes elements of the entry closet, kitchen, cabinet to the dining room and fireplace and the library. The second module includes the bathrooms, walk-in closet and the main vertical circulation that leads to the attic rooms. The third module contains the wardrobe and the bathroom.
A large roof covers and unifies the building. It takes the appearance of a faceted volume, a heavy rock balanced on the fragile wood studs that compose the façade.
