This project required the refurbishment of a 185m/2 Grade II listed private residence on Holland Park Road, London. A complete renovation of the first floor allowed the entire property area to be maximised, providing an additional bedroom whilst simultaneously increasing the bathroom spaces. Conscious to control the budget, the design utilised existing service locations and kept the bathroom layouts roughly intact. The circulation was reconfigured to propose a lightweight, cantilevered stair of glass, steel and timber, repositioned to a location more in keeping with the original architecture. This not only provided a sculptural centerpiece for the scheme, but through its lightweight design and materiality, maximised the feeling of light and space within the circulation areas.Adopting a modern minimal approach, the interior design plays on a contrast between light and dark tones. A range of bespoke joinery was developed with a white lacquer and French polish finish. This was to directly contrast with the proposed dark European oak floor running throughout.
