District Hall, Boston’s public innovation center, is the first building completed at Seaport Square, Boston Global Investors’ 23-acre waterfront development. Located in the heart of Seaport Square, it is also the first freestanding city-sponsored innovation center of its kind in the country, serving as an anchor for the emerging Innovation District.
The 4,000-square-foot Gather restaurant and Brew Cafe are District Hall’s only permanent residents, supporting the building’s public functions with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, seven days a week.
Gather is designed around the core experience of District Hall: bringing Boston together in the Innovation District. The restaurant’s rustic American fare is lit by the warm glow of dozens of bare-bulb lights suspended from a cloud of rigorously designed CNC-milled wood designed to control sound, reflect light, and create intimacy in District Hall’s industrial-inspired space. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer grand views of the Institute of Contemporary Art and the Boston Harbor sky beyond. H+A’s team of interior designers worked closely with our architects to create a stunning palette of materials, textures, and colors to enhance the dining experience in the city’s new center for innovation.
Serving breakfast and lunch as well as coffee, wine, and beer to District Hall’s patrons, Brew Cafe was designed as an integral part of District Hall’s central spine, inviting visitors to relax in the center’s plush cafe seating or get involved in a discussion, exposition, or workshop. Bright green walls and warm CNC-milled surfaces reflect the colorful LED lighting above.
