With an open front, this shop is divided into two distinct components that read as a seamless storefront. iQ Food Co. is on the west side with 440 square. It has a counter along the lease line which is a massive and monolithic concrete surface. Beside it, a 100 square foot area is devoted to Greenhouse Juice Co. and provides customers with a space to walk into the shop. Both spaces are unified with a dark finished ceiling and floor, as well as a continuous row of sign lights that create the sensation of being outdoors under a night sky. Juxtaposed against this is the light maple and oak wood finishes of the millwork, white concrete counter, and shimmering copper.
Greenhouse Juice Co’s display refrigerator was integrated into a larger piece of millwork which flanks the north and east walls of the shop. The millwork houses storage cabinets and a POS inside of a 2” x 2” maple framework covered in expanded copper mesh. Compressors and copper condensate lines that power the fridge are visible through the copper mesh and live inside the millwork alongside greenery.
The muted white concrete palette of iQ Food Co.’s west side of the shop draw attention to the colours of their products’ fresh ingredients. Wood is repeated here in perforated oak millwork and in a frameless glass pastry case that has wood dowel supports.
Although both clients have distinctive products and branding, the night scene we designed, and material palette in both sides of the space create a seamless image. Their logos were integrated into the concrete clad gates at either side of the shop’s entry - both logos are in copper.
