This residential property is located in Chosica, on the outskirts of the highlands east of Lima. The Rimac River runs along the bottom edge of the property and there are two levels, the first related to the extension above the landscape, and the lower one with the river.
The architects sought to create a poetic sense of living against the landscape, with the course of the river becoming a main element in the design. The home’s cantilevered wood ceilings act as a mantle in motion and are accompanied by vernacular stone walls that open toward the landscape and run parallel to the river’s flow. The suspended roof acts as protection from the outside elements while also integrating the interior into the surrounding landscape. The entrance is located on the upper level, which can only be seen from the large entrance court, allowing for control of scale. The lower level is directly related to the movement of the river and appears only when the street that runs between the volumes of the project is discovered.
