Ole Sondresen Architect was selected to design Eileen Fisher’s flagship store at Columbus Circle to showcase their new store concept. Aligned with Eileen Fisher’s missions of versatility, authenticity, and sustainability, the design features an open floor plan with flexible systems for clothing hanging and display, made from regionally-sourced reclaimed wood components.
A “grove” of laminated posts serves as a backdrop for clothing, mannequins and mirrors; floor-to-ceiling mullions with integrated rotatable brackets are used for selectively hanging clothing in the storefront; and a custom table made of movable wood pedestals is constantly being re-configured to curate new clothing and accessories around the store.
Other sustainable features include LED track lighting recessed between reclaimed wood ceiling planks, a pliable recycled-content rubber/cork floor that is easy on the sale personnel’s feet, low and no-VOC finishes, and natural linen fitting room curtains. Demolished materials were salvaged, recycled or re-used where possible, and mock-up materials are re-used in the finished store.
