Inspiration:
The owners wanted us to design a business hotel with a tasteful blend of contemporary and chic décor that would offer guests impeccable service and warm hospitality in an enviable location. The owners also wanted various dining options for local patrons. After taking advantage of available space and going vertical, the concept of ‘simple yet elegant’ emerged.
Research Abstract:
Because the major clientele is corporate types from the IT and industrial hub, the owners wanted to create a business hotel with multiple F and B outlets catering to elite guests from the neighboring area. The key factor was to design an outlet that would attract the local patrons, as well. Capitalizing on the clientele profile and utilizing an optimal amount of space were the main criteria going back to the drawing board.
Challenge:
The site had a small hotel of fifty rooms that was to be retained. The new hotel was to be designed and constructed in an open plot behind the existing hotel. After the completion of the new hotel, the existing hotel was to be demolished. The site’s dimensional restrictions imposed a vertical construction and service planning was a challenge. We chose a double basement to incorporate back of the house and services areas. The lap pool was designed as a rooftop feature.
Unique Properties:
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pune is centrally located in the heart of the automotive and industrial belt that is home to manufacturing units including Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, and Eaton. With its strategic location, the hotel also provides easy access to business districts such as the Chakan Hinjewadi IT Park and Talegaon, which houses Mercedes-Benz, JCB, Infosys, Wipro, and more. Exclusive amenities for corporate travelers include a 24-hour business center with flexible meeting space and complimentary Wi-Fi. Leisure visitors can enjoy the multiple entertainment and shopping districts nearby.
Transition, flow:
The ground floor has a lobby, 3spice restaurant, and a kitchen. The first floor has conference and meeting rooms, along with the Linear Bar. The second floor is a spa and admin office. Twin-bed guestrooms are on the third floor. The fourth and fifth floors are standard guestrooms. The sixth through eleventh floors are executive rooms. The thirteenth floor is a suite floor. The fourteenth floor is a lounge floor with a presidential suite. The lap pool sits on the terrace with a restaurant –– Level 12. The health club fits in a split area of the terrace and lounge floor.
Emphasis was given to the optimum utilization of space and the vertical connection was established via elevators and staircases positioned at the extreme ends of the building. The circulation of the guest and service areas were planned in such a way that the two would not cross. Spilt levels were introduced to take advantage of the majority of the available space. The structure is a frame up to the second floor, RCC sheer walls until the suite floor, and again converts into frame from the lounge floor upwards.
