The De Candido Express supermarket, located in Maracaibo, Venezuela, develops a concept that represents the attributes of the De Candido brand, such as simplicity, firm softness, versatility, continuity, and innovation. The project must be replicable but adaptable to different urban locations.
To establish a position concerning the traditional architecture of free-standing commercial buildings, and to relate it to the brand itself, the closings must seem continuous in the architecture of the project.
That is why the design of this building is based on the origami technique that permits, using the same material, multiple shapes for innumerable forms. The same paper folded in different ways creating a continuous architectural piece with different angles and points of view of the form. In this case, we used laminated galvanized steel plates pre-painted white, for climatic purposes.
The origami technique permits infinite shapes, and that is very important for De Candido because they plan to build a lot of express supermarkets with unique site-specific structures.
Being located in an anisotropic environment, the building opens to the main avenue to make its interior public.
