Cross Grain houses the Lio Gallery, exhibiting wooden works of sculpture furniture and art, as well as the workshop and residence of the artist.
Building architecture mediates continuity between artificial and natural surfaces without cutting into the landscape with retaining walls. The contour lines of the landscape were analyzed and translated to shape the building; consistent sectional lines with moving plans in the landscape are translated to varied sections and planar uniformity in the architecture.
The continuous copper skin with solid and perforated panels connects and accommodates the underlying structure. The
material enhances the wood artworks on the interior, while maintaining a connection to the environing mountains on the outside.
