Pieper O’Brien Herr Architects designed the 231,000 square-foot, 8-story courthouse to accommodate 12 superior courtrooms with a larger ceremonial courtroom. The facility is linked to the existing court service building via an elevated pedestrian bridge, across a busy street, allowing staff to safely navigate between buildings. The security of the facility requires controlled access through screening devices. This project was delivered in a design-build method through a public procurement process. The Cobb County Superior Courthouse has a full basement level dedicated to the secure confinement of 180 male and female inmates with delivery to each of the courtrooms via four secure elevators. The Central Control Room monitors activities throughout the entire facility and the existing Government Center across the street. It is LEED Gold Certified.
