The idea behind the design for the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) was to humanize the urban landscape of the warehouse district.
The art collector, Ella Cisneros and the architect, Rene Gonzalez both felt strongly that it was time to establish a welcoming place in this burgeoning yet austere warehouse district in downtown Miami. Rene Gonzalez Architect manipulated natural patterns to create a façade that depicts a jungle.
The natural patterns are created utilizing over one million multi-colored glass Bisazza tiles. The patterns on the facade are folded onto the ground in the parking lot infusing the ground plane with an actual garden planted with weeping ficus and bamboo. The perception of the jungle is altered and dissolves as one enters the garden/parking lot.
