This project involved a major interior remodel of
an existing 2000 SF flat in the San Francisco neighborhood, Pacific Heights.
The project was designed with two primary objectives. The first was to create a
contemporary interior by incorporating a palette of natural materials with
clean, minimal detailing while maintaining a strong dialogue with the scale and
proportions of the existing Victorian structure. The second was to create a
forum for the display of the owner’s extensive art collection. The interior was
designed to work seamlessly with artworks ranging from second century BC Pre-Columbian
artifacts to old, modern and contemporary mater paintings and drawings. The
project can be summarized as a dialogue between old and new. While the design
is contemporary—to reflect the way we live today—it embodies a subtlety that
allows the art to breathe within an atmosphere that is timeless.
