In a neighborhood of Victorian and Edwardian homes, we rebuilt a worn bungalow into a modern tower that honors the diverse architectural styles of its surroundings. Square-grooved siding evokes the wood exterior of Victorians while venting panels disguised in the siding recreate the movement of traditional shutters.
To accommodate a family of four, we added a third floor to the house and a 10-foot cantilevered bathroom at the back. Although it has a compact footprint, the home feels spacious with a skylight and an open-plan second story. The green roof, inspired by the neighborhood’s park, includes a hatch for sleeping under the stars.
