The intent of the project was to expand and modernize the
existing planetarium built in the 1950's.  The project includes 22,000
square meter of floor area, with five stories above ground and two stories
underground- total building height of 30 meters. Total construction cost was
300 million RMB and the completion date was in December of 2004. The building
program includes- a 250-seat planetarium, a 200-seat 4-D Theater, a 36-seat
I-Werk theater, an exhibition space, library, cafeteria, and gift shop, two
roof-top observatories, and a research and office facility.
