Two founders of Superpozycja Architekci took up the challenge of transforming an old attic in Gliwice (Poland) to a brand new, modern apartment. Due to the fact that the attic was a virtual ruin, such attic conversion was a real challenge. The first step was to create a functional system, using as much space as possible. The height of the room was an advantage and allow the architects to build a mezzanine divided into a couple of additional rooms.
In order to create more space and proper climate they use many roof windows that lit the interior and made it look cosy and quite inviting.
The attic kept its original height which made the interior look very spacious. The architects used the existing parts of roof structure and exposed old bricks. They decided to reuse the wood received from demolition to design wooden worktops and tables.
The interior design is composed mostly of bright and simple furniture which blends into the background. Pictures and photographs are some of the stylish elements that enrich the apartment design.
There is a bedroom, a walk-in closet and storage space in the mezzanine. They put there a glass wall too so that it is possilble to observe the living room and the kitchen from the bedroom.
An old laundry room was transformed into the bathroom, utility room and another walk-in closet. The architects decided to expose bricks in the bathroom too and to paint them in graphite. There is a separate bathtub and shower cabin. Old, rough wood looks nicely surrounded by white and gray colors.
