Aragon House is an upmarket business centre situated in the heart of St. Julian’s, Malta comprising nine floors of open plan office space with an underlying five floors of car parking. This centre has been
purposely designed with maximum flexibility to be able to cater for multi - tenants in a controlled
environment.
The design philosophy envisaged the creation of a landmark building in an area consisting mainly of
traditional mid-rise buildings built in irregular shapes. Thus Aragon House has architecturally evolved
from simple geometric forms in particular from the elliptical form which intersects with other forms to create a dynamic expression, whilst being in harmony with the adjacent buildings. This was achieved by selecting the appropriate cladding materials for the external envelope. Being situated in the midst of Malta’s entertainment hub, special emphasis had to be given to achieve a high level of sound attenuation and of security to enable this business centre to operate around the clock.
This development was constructed mainly as a structural steel frame incorporating composite concrete floor slabs, thereby providing maximum planning flexibility. It can therefore cater for a wide range of
office layouts having lettable areas from a minimum of 90 square metres to a maximum of 1100 square
metre in each of the nine floors. Currently, having fourteen floors all constructed in structural steel makes Aragon House unique in Malta. Emphasis in the design has been such as to aim for a very high energy rating. This was achieved through the use of technical innovation, high quality materials and design options. In particular the external envelope was realized by the use of low emissivity selective glazing incorporating the latest aluminium facade systems. Aragon House has also energy efficient building services controlled by a state of the art building management system.
