Antoniou residence is found at a residential area, in the Southwest bound of the town of Larnaca and North from the salt lake, which extend throughout the whole North side of the town. This residential area has been developed in the last twenty years, by the construction of detached houses and small residential complexes.
The plot 600m2 is accessible from a public street from its South side and there is a ground height difference of 1.5m from the south to the north boundary. At the north, east and west boundaries, there are detached houses built at the early nineties, which have greenery as a fence at their boundaries.
The building’s program consists of a covered parking space for two vehicles at the underground level, lounge, dining room, living room, kitchen, storage room, office, guest toilet on the ground floor and the master bedroom with cloakroom and its own bath, two children bedrooms, bath, guest room and laundry room on the first floor.
A combination of the above factors and the clients’ desire for the protection of their privacy from the public street, the residence is organized in discreet functional sections, in an L-shaped set up around the yard, at which all the internal spaces open to.
The access towards the main entrance of the house, which is found in the middle of the west elevation, is organized by continuous solid elements covered in stone. Stone dominates on the ground floor and it also constitutes visually the base of the building.
All the spaces of each section on each floor, are organized around the two-floor height central space with the metal staircase. At the ground floor the lounge and the dining room are on one side and the living room and kitchen on the other side. On the first floor the master bedroom and the children bedrooms are found on one side and the guest room on the other side. These spaces are exposed with continuous glass frames facing the yard, which is the main focus of the design, whereas the openings that face the street are filtered with wooden louvers. On the first floor an integrating space, apart from the staircase in the two-floor height space, is the covered outdoor balcony that faces the bath of the master bedroom.
