This landmarked residential building is located on the corner of East 78th Street and Park Avenue. The neo-classical style apartment house building was designed by George and Edward Blum and dates to 1911-12.
After three years of meticulous restoration, the facade project was substantially completed in 2011. The terra cotta elements were repaired and replicated, cracked stone pinned and patched, parapets were reconstructed, structural beams were replaced and waterproofing was installed to prevent future damage to the structure. The facade was repointed in its entirety; sections that had been repaired in non-matching bricks were replaced, and all penetrations were sealed. Finally the all facades were low pressured cleaned to remove all the soot and grime that had accumulated during the last hundred years.
This restoration was completed in time for the 100th birthday of the building and received the 2012 Restoration Award from Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts (www.friends-ues.org).
