2 hours away from Shanghai, China, this is a 350,000 sm (3.76 million
sf) )HOPSCA project consisting of a "3rd generation shopping mall"
(200,000 sm) and a complex of luxury high-rise condominum (150,000 sm).
Together , they form part of the larger New Economic Town Center
Development in the area.
The planning and design of this shopping mall set the stage for as an
energetic retail destination consisting of a state of the art movie
theater, high-end specialty shops, restaurants, luxury automobile and
electronic showrooms, spa, boutique hotel , outdoor recreational boat
rides activities, sunken garden, water features, as well as areas for
passive contemplation. The design incorporates a variety of spaces -
formal/ informal, passive/active spaces, and conditions that provide
opportunities for chance encounters - resulting in a vibrant social
gathering hub for residents of the neighborhood on top of the shopping
experience. Stretching over 5 city blocks, the roof of each of these
buildings are interconnected with bridges and are accessible externally
from ground level. Program on this ascending roof consists of gardens
and play areas as well as outdoor stages for cultural performances and
entertainment.
Constructed of lightweight steel tubes and LED technologies, the
curvilinear trellises over the roof gardens are inspired by the movement
of the traditional Chinese ribbon dance. They create micro-climate over
the roof top gardens, shade for activities as well as are revenue
generators.
The housing component in this development consists of low, medium and high-rises - totaling 585 units.
with the lower ones along the street edge to mitigate scale.
Compositionally, they are organized around a central man-made lake that
affords views and also distance between towers . Per regulatory
guidelines, each of these towers are oriented to ensure that each unit
receive the required number of day light per day.
