Established in 1998, Touraine Richmond Architects is a young firm located in Venice, California. With an average of 20 years of experience, its two founding partners combine a rich, international background with sound, local construction experience. Touraine Richmond offers a highly sophisticated conceptual approach, based on a working knowledge of minimal and conceptual art and many years of construction experience. We strive to amalgamate the multiple concerns of architectural design into strong, conceptual statements that reach beyond the confines of traditional architectural processes. The partners' international experience on large-scale projects has allowed us to develop working relationships with some of the world's most respected conceptual thinkers in engineering, landscape and graphic design, while our local experience has strengthened our ties to building and making. Mr. Touraine is a French architect and has taught in Paris, at Columbia University in New York, and at SCI-Arc, UCLA, and USC in Los Angeles. Ms. Richmond is a California-licensed architect and instructor in Los Angeles, and has taught architectural design and theory at the Art Center of Pasadena, SCI-Arc, and UCLA. Both Mr. Touraine and Ms. Richmond have been the recipients of design awards and research grants for their respective individual experience. Their work has been published in The New York Times, Dwell, Architectural Record, Architecture and Le Moniteur-AMC (France). They have participated in group shows in Paris, London, Glasgow, Berlin, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles and have lectured both in the U.S. and China.
