Fernanda Vuilleumier is the director and founder of studio FV established in 2008 and based in Puerto Natales Region de Magallanes, Provincia de Ultima Esperanza, Chile & Santiago Chile, where the practice of architecture within a broader context of per formative research explores the medium of architecture as an active condition. The work encompasses client-based projects at a wide array of building scale, as well as hypothetical architectural proposals and temporary preconceptions, context and nature.Vuilleumier’s focuses on material innovation, research, application, and resourcefulness within a broader social and cultural context while providing a well-rounded architecture. She engages physically and digitally with high tech, low technologies and emerging building materials systems to explore architecture as a critical evolving functionality.Vuilleumier’s methodology is to negotiate complex relationships between viewer and object. She employs and manipulates a diverse range of innovative strategies and emergent technologies: hybrid materials, patterned surfaces, and complex arrangements of repeated elements. The resultant tectonic language facilitates customization and evolving functional needs, while creating provocative environments which are spatial and material. In combination with running her architectural practice, Fernanda is the founder of LATIN AMERICAN LABORATORY NETWORK (LAALAB.NET). LAAB is an online platform that aims to widespread the creative work of Latin-American architects, designers and artists.LATIN AMERICA LABORATORY is a non-profit research laboratory composed of a multidisciplinary team of professionals and students seeking to improve the human condition in Latin American countries, through the application of low-tech and high-tech engineering using high-performance design-materials & methods.
