Limited (BIOME) has been created as a result of the integration of Chitra K.
Vishwanath Architects and key members of the Rainwater Club, a group of water
management experts.

Architects has designed and
implemented several real estate development projects – residences, institutions
and resorts – guided by ecological principles, integrating sound water, energy
and land-use thinking into design. The architectural practice was established
by Chitra Vishwanath in 1990 as a self-funded enterprise.
Rainwater
Club
established in 1995 by S. Vishwanath has extensive experience in providing
knowledge services in water management and rainwater harvesting, ecological
waste water treatment and sanitation practices. It has now grown to looking at
assimilating ecological sanitation and agriculture.
Approach
Biome endeavors to deliver knowledge
services adhering to environmental thinking and helps implement projects in the
following key areas:
1. Real-estate & Development Planning
– Trained architects work with commissioned consultants about bringing an
ecological thinking from a land-use planning level, implement through
operations of the project till completion. This is carried out considering all
aspects of the development of land-use, water, energy and bio-diversity.
2. Architecture & Design
– Ecology and sustainability are the two corner stones on which the firm’s
architectural and design philosophy revolves. They work in close tandem with
the client and their requirements to be able to conceive an environmentally
sound project. This is achieved by a constant assessment and evaluation of the
project’s impact on site, embodied energy of materials, climatic tolerance,
water management systems and the social impact.
3. Water and Sanitation – BIOME consults
its clients in effective handling and designing of portable water and waste
water reuse systems in urban as well as rural contexts. This includes the
integration of ecological water practices such as rainwater harvesting, passive
or decentralized waste water treatment systems, ecological sanitation, water
demand and ongoing water management amongst others.
4. Energy planning – The firm analyzes the specific
energy needs of a particular project, consults with concerned specialists and
charts out an energy blueprint keeping in mind the locally available
possibilities.
5. Training, Education and dissemination
–BIOME believes in imparting knowledge in the above fields to receptive
audiences as a part of inculcating Ecological and Sustainable practices in the
society. For achieving this, training sessions and seminars are regularly
incorporated into the firm’s activities.
