Bernard Tschumi has designed projects around the world, including the Parc de la Villette in Paris and the New Acropolis Museum in Athens. But the firm has never worked in Italy–until now. Last week, Bernard Tschumi Architects unveiled its first design for the country, a rectangular cultural center located in the city of Grottammare, on the Adriatic coast.
ANIMA, commissioned by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Ascoli Piceno and the Municipality of Grottammare, aims to generate stronger ties between the people and their city, celebrating the region's art, cuisine, and environment. Tschumi's large white structure already highlights the city's local terrain, with tree-branch-like cutouts decorating the building's white facade.
Construction is intended to start in early 2014, with expected completion in 2016.
